Appleby's Greenbrier Classic Winning Bag

Stewart Appleby took it to Greenbrier on Sunday shooting a 59 for the one shot victory last weekend. 2nd Swing Golf takes a look at the bag he used to get there. Appleby birdied the final three holes en route to his victory.

Appleby used fusion technology off the tee with the Callaway FT Tour. It's a pretty modest loft, even for a pro to keep the spin down. It's Callaway's third composite crown and titanium face driver, and Appleby was 21st in driving distance and 39th in driving accuracy over the weekend.

The Aussie also had a Callaway 3-wood in his bag for the weekend. The Diablo Edge Tour Fairway Wood is their latest model.

He also put a forged 3-iron into his bag. A lot of players will put this club in their bag to give them a low lofted iron to hit stingers to cut through the wind, and to help them get out of trouble.

This set of irons mixes a lot of the elements from a blade, thin top line and sole, but also provides some of the forgiveness of a cavity back club. Appleby was pretty accurate approaching greens during the weekend averaging 73% over the four rounds, ranking 40th for the event.

The Callaway wedges a very similar to Cleveland wedges, and provide golfers a lot of options around the green.

The White Hot XG 330 is a relative bargain price putter that you can find for under $100. It's got a of alignment aides that obviously allowed Appleby to put the ball in the hole. He 2nd in putting for Putts Per GIR, and 3rd in Putts per round.

Club Fitting Experts 2nd Swing Named PING Golf Fitter of the Year

Extensive custom golf club fitting experience earned 2nd Swing regional fitter of the year honors from PING

Club fitting expert 2nd Swing, online retailer of used golf clubs with store locations in the Minneapolis area, announced that they have been named the regional PING club fitter or the year for 2009. Given the honor for the North Central US region, one of five regions nationally, 2nd Swing was recognized by PING for its continuing commitment to custom golf club fitting and its value to golfers of all abilities.

“2nd Swing’s staff shares our belief that if golfers take the time to get custom fit, they’ll see improved performance on the golf course,” said John A. Solheim, PING Chairman & CEO. “They demonstrate their expertise on a daily basis to ensure golfers receive the full value offered by PING’s custom fitting program. 2nd Swing’s staff’s commitment to our program makes them very deserving of this honor.”

The PING fitting system can help golfers hit straighter, more consistent shots by matching club specifications to swings using a color coded chart and a special tape affixed to the bottom of golf clubs that records where the user is striking the ground. Clubs are then fit based on data recorded in the swing session. 2nd Swing provides custom club fitting at its Minneapolis and Minnetonka, MN, locations.

"We're very humbled to receive this honor," said Russ Higgins, President of 2nd Swing. "Our staff is dedicated to providing customers with clubs that improve their game, and we are able to achieve that goal with the PING fitting system."

About Ping

Ping designs, manufactures and markets a complete line of golf equipment including metal woods, irons, putters, and golf bags. The family-owned company was founded in 1959 in the garage of the late Karsten Solheim, a mechanical engineer with an extensive background in the aerospace and computer industries. His frustration with his putting inspired him to design his own putter, which created a “pinging” sound when striking a golf ball. This sound was the source of the name now synonymous with innovation, quality and service throughout the world of golf. For more information, visit pinggolf.com.
